Texas GATORFEST is an annual festival held in Anahuac, Texas that celebrates the American Alligator. Each year, thousands of visitors flock to Fort Anahuac Park for a weekend of family friendly fun and entertainment. Texas GATORFEST takes place in Anahuac, the Alligator Capital of Texas. This designation was bestowed on the city by the State Legislature of Texas because the alligators outnumber the humans almost 3 to 1!
Historic Fort Anahuac Park, located on the mouth of the Trinity River in beautiful Chambers County, is the Festival's scenic site. This truly unique festival combines the alligator, family and good old fashioned Texas two-stepping fun! A celebration of the alligator and its wetlands habitat, this family-oriented festival has something for everyone. Adult carnival rides, kiddie rides, assorted vendors and arts and crafts booths offer goods and experiences that every member of your family can enjoy. Unique attractions like airboat rides, live music and of course the star of the show, the American Alligator, offer festival goers a coastal Texas experience like no other!
The Great Texas Alligator Roundup, the premier event of GATORFEST, invites Texas alligator hunters to bring in their "harvest" to compete for cash prizes. The festival coincides with the opening of the 20 day core habitat alligator season in Texas and the Roundup sees an average of 10 percent of the alligators harvested from the wild in Texas annually. Previous years' winners have been almost 14 feet long! The Alligator Education Tent, where government and private organizations that deal with the alligator and its wetlands habitat, along with the live alligator displays throughout the festival provided by Texas Parks and Wildlife and specialty vendors offering alligator products, combine with the Roundup to give guests a rare opportunity for an "up close and personal" look at this fascinating reptile.
Live music and a variety of walkaround entertainers keep guests amused. Our entertainment is as varied as our guests - from rock and roll to country and western to zydeco and rhythm and blues, fold or gospel.
All of this, combined with more than 20 food and drink booths offering a variety of fare including alligator prepared in an assortment of ways, make for a bargain in family entertainment.
Texas GATORFEST is a combined effort of The Anahuac Area Chamber of Commerce and the citizens of Anahuac inviting visitors to come and see our beautiful and historic community. With a population of only a little over 2,000, the festivals totally volunteer staff of more than 500 workers is truly a representation of the pride that our citizens have in their community. GATORFEST brings more than half a million dollars into the community annually, benefiting many of the civic and nonprofit organizations along with area businesses.

Winnie Rice Festival
The idea of the Rice Festival after the 1968, St. Louis Catholic Church Bazaar/Festival that was meant to celebrate the rice harvest. It was so successful; the idea was formed to make it a community celebration. Farmers from Winnie-Stowell, Liberty, Dayton, Anahuac, Orange and Hamshire-Fannett areas gathered to discuss this event. By October 1969, the Charter for the Texas Rice Festival, Inc. was obtained. That was the beginning of a long relationship between several communities as they came together to celebrate the rice harvest so vital to the area.
On October 3, 1970, Jack Cravy presided over the first Rice Festival.
Today the Texas Rice Festival has grown considerably to host Horse Shoes, a Live Stock show, BBQ cookoff, and various other contest. The Festival also features Grammy wining artist to local talent to showoff your your two step dancing.
Texas Crab Festival
The Texas Crab Festival got its start in 1986, when a few of the Local Business folks were looking for a way to promote business and tourism in Crystal Beach. What began with a few hundred people, currently boasts thousands annually on Mothers Day Weekend for three days of Fun…Sun…and CRABS, CRABS, CRABS!
